Description:
Dalwhinnie 15 Years Single Malt Whiskey is a true representative of Highland (often classified as Speyside) whiskies. This 15-year expression from the Dalwhinnie distillery combines classic notes of caramel, fruit salad and custard with a faint hint of smoke, making it a complete and well-balanced dram.
With the first sniff you discover aromatic notes, followed by lush nectarine, honeysuckle and hints of pear and a faint hint of smoke. On the palate comes a malty sweetness, complemented by notes of walnut and the distinctive Manuka honey. A gentle smoky note makes the taste complex and rich, before a spicy undertone emerges.
The finish is long and persistent, characterized by malt, walnut and almond. This whiskey has been praised by many, including Jim Murray who awarded it 95 points in his Whiskey Bible.
In addition, this whiskey contains notes of heather, cinnamon, pear, honey and toffee. Particularly characteristic of this whiskey is its smoothness and elegant profile, with a buttery, velvety flow that leaves a refined aftertaste.
Dalwhinnie 15 years is not only an excellent representation of the traditional style of the district, but it is also a perfect introduction to the world of single malt whisky.
The Distillery:
Dalwhinnie Distillery was built in 1898 and sits in an exposed position beside the road through Drumochter Pass. At 1,075 feet above sea level, it is Scotland's highest distillery. The distillery has experienced a checkered history, but is now owned by United Distillers. This whiskey is slowly matured in some of Scotland's harshest weather conditions, giving it a unique character.
