Description:
Sandeman Porto Fine Tawny is an exquisite and light port wine, which is selected annually for aging in small oak casks to develop its unique style. This refined port wine combines traditional wine production with modern finesse, where the result is a delicious drink with the character of a great port wine.
With a production based on a selection of grapes such as Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Touriga Franca from the Douro region of Portugal, this port presents a clear red amber color. The light and intense body reveals aromas of vanilla and dried fruits. In the mouth, an elegant harmony and fresh taste of red fruits are revealed, complemented by the complexity of oak aging and a good finish.
Food pairing:
Sandeman Porto Fine Tawny is ideal lightly chilled at 12-16ºC. Its delicate and intense character makes it an excellent companion to caramel desserts such as crème brûlée or tarte tatin, as well as strong blue cheeses such as Roquefort. For the more adventurous palates, this port can also be enjoyed with foie gras or a creamy seafood vol-au-vent.
Winemaking:
Sandeman Porto Tawny is produced using the traditional Porto wine method, where hand-picked grapes undergo de-stemming and crushing before fermentation at a controlled temperature with skin contact. Adding wine alcohol at the ideal time balances the wine between body and bouquet. After spending the spring in the Douro, the wines are transported to V.N.Gaia, where they mature in oak casks in Sandeman's century-old warehouses. The wines chosen for this Tawny are carefully tasted and analyzed, after which the final blend is created from wines that are between 15 and 40 years old.
Tasting notes:
This is a rich but elegant wine where the combination of flavor notes - dried apricots, honey, nuts, spices and vanilla - creates an infinitely complex wine that unfolds smoothly and develops in the mouth. It should be stored upright, protected from light and moisture, at a constant temperature of 16ºC-18ºC. It is ready to drink and does not need decanting, but benefits from oxygenation. Once opened, it should be consumed within 2-3 months.
